Today is my 40th birthday. I have dreaded this day for a while. I find my life has chaged so much in the past 2 years. Professionally, I am about to finish my B.A, I am a board member for a regional anthropological society, I am about to be published for the first time, I am learning to write as an anthropologist and I am excited to move on to the next phase of my life--graduate school. Taking a graduate class now is preparation for bigger and better things. I have an amazing professor. She is harsh but gentle, firm but sensitive and is a straight shooter--sometimes to a fault but one will never question where they stand with her regarding their writing and/or methodology they choose to use. I have told her that she is an inspiration to me and I meant it.
Persuing (albeit quite late in the game) what has been in my heart since 2000 when I took my first cultural anthropology class, has kept me from regrets. I have lead a great life in many ways. I was able to see quite a bit of our diverse world, meet amazing people and now have mentors helping me over the moutains when the rocks get too jagged....how I hope to have this affect on a student someday.

You're an inspiration to me Tiff. When I finished my BA in Anthropology I felt too burnt out to continue for an MA. Life took me in a different direction and I'm older now. But if you can do it at your age, I can too insha'Allah!
Happy Birthday! Forty is a nice watershed birthday, and you are about to spend the next years fulfilling delayed dreams. All the best with their realization.

Tara--salaam sis..your so sweet. I find myself needing a break. I will get a 2 semester one after graduation. Teach or something until the acceptance letter arrives. :) Insh'Allah!! I am working so hard.I want to teach at the Community College level in applied anthropology! You can do it Tara--you need to move back here. I hope that it can happen..insh'Allah

Thank you for your kind words. I am determined to do this. I wish I had the "nuts" to go for this straightaway after my move to Fl. Anyhow, it is almost done God Willing.
